Softball, baseball registration underway

Baseball and softball registration is underway in Pike. The Pike County Baseball Association will register children ages 3 to 15 at the old middle school from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Any child who has not previously played in the league should bring a copy of his or her birth certificate. Around 400 kids played baseball in Pike last year and more than 200 played softball. This year, the parks and recreation authority is in charge of softball registration which will run through Jan. 30. ”This is the third program that the parks and recreation authority is directly responsible for,” said director Kevin Teate. “We started with football this year, we’ve got youth basketball going on currently and now we’ve got softball.” Anyone interested in registering for softball can drop by the recreation authority office Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Softball registration will also take place Saturday, Jan. 23, and Saturday, Jan. 30, at the office from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. The registration fee for softball is $110 with a $10 sibling discount and a $10 out of county fee. The fee covers uniforms, player insurance, softball, umpires and other equipment.
