Southern Rivers Energy Trust gives more than $6,000 in Pike

The Southern Rivers Energy (SRE) Trust recently awarded Operation Round Up grants to Zebulon First Baptist Church and the Pike County American Legion to benefit ongoing community projects.

American Legion Post 197 received a grant from the SRE Trust. The group was awarded $2,500 toward the ongoing refurbishment of the Pike County Veterans Memorial located at the square in downtown Zebulon.

Bryan Richardson of the Pike County American Legion says the funds will help cover the cost of installing new granite at the memorial site.

The refurbishment of the Veterans Memorial is underway, and the post plans to hold a dedication ceremony on Memorial Day, later this year.

Zebulon First Baptist Church received $3,800 to purchase food for its active food pantry. The funds are enough to provide 10,000 pounds of food from the Middle Georgia Community Food Bank.

Volunteer Judy Standridge leads the distribution of food to families in need, and the church says hundreds of families are served by the food pantry each year.

Food is distributed twice a month, and each box contains enough food to last a family of four for a month. Boxes can be picked up on the first Tuesday of the month or the third Thursday of the month from 4 to 6 p.m. at Zebulon First Baptist Church,15922 Concord St., Zebulon, GA.
If anyone needs food outside distribution times, call Judy Standridge at 470-389-4538.

Southern Rivers Energy’s Operation Round Up funds are made possible by the generosity of many SRE members who voluntarily round up their power bill to the nearest dollar amount each month. The extra change is deposited into the SRE Trust, and the funds are distributed through community and individual grants, Bright Ideas teacher grants for local teachers, and SRE Trust Scholarships for local students.
