A special needs woman was viciously attacked by a dog Friday evening in Meansville about an hour before dark and had to be hospitalized.
The attack happened at 3619 Highway 19, just south of The Rock Store in Meansville.
According to Pike County animal control director Tanya Perkins, three dogs were seen in the area but one dog caused the “vicious dog bite” that resulted in her hospitalization.
According to witnesses, the dog appeared to be a pit bull mix.
First responders called for a life flight helicopter and first responders prepared for a landing zone at Chestnut Oak. After hearing the helicopter was 40 minutes out, they transported her by ambulance to Macon.
She was treated and returned home Saturday.
Animal control officer Tanya Perkins said the owner of the dogs will be cited with a nuisance citation, a vicious dog citation and possibly citations for no rabies vaccinations for multiple dogs.
Perkins said this incident is still under investigation and the name of the dog owner and other information will be available at a later date.
