Pike County’s STAR student and STAR teacher were named Jan. 26 in the 52nd year of the program. This year senior Andrea Teachout is the STAR student. She chose her pre-calculus teacher Tammy Deluzio as her STAR teacher. Student Teacher Achievement Recognition honors are given to high school seniors who have the highest score on the SAT and are in the top 10 percent of the class. ”I used to hate math but Ms. Deluzio enjoys it and her enthusiasm wore off on me,” said Teachout. “She explains and gives examples but she does it in small chunks, not too much at once. She also really enjoys math so her students have fun learning it.”Teachout plans to attend Liberty University in Virginia to pursue a degree in education.”I want to teach younger children, probably kindergarten,” said Teachout. “I want to remember all I learned from my best teachers and apply it in my own classroom.”
