March went out like a lion with tornado and flash flood warnings Sunday and Monday and more than a dozen roads closed. Hail battered parts of the county in the early morning hours March 26 and the National Weather Service sent out a warning to local citizens to avoid driving if possible.
School was cancelled Monday morning due to road conditions and tornado warnings.
The two-day storm dropped more than 7 inches of rain in the county. The University of Georgia Weather Network recorded 4.23 inches on March 26 at their Williamson weather station. There was an additional 3 inches of rain at the station as of press time at noon Monday. Citizens in the southern part of the county say there were 9 to 10 inches of rain recorded.
