Sunday night fire in Meansville claims life

A house fire claimed the life of Glenn Scott Sorrell, 51, at his Adams Road home in Meansville the evening of Sunday, Feb. 15. According to Pike County Emergency Services Fire Chief Rick O’Barr, he was one of the first to arrive and fire was already visible through the roof with about 25% of the house in flames. ’We got the report that someone was inside. We made entry through the front door and started fighting the fire,’ he said. ‘We started a primary search for the victim. We found him and got him out and continued on with the firefighting efforts.’ The victim was removed from the house on a stretcher. According to reports, he was found just inside the front door in the living room. Coroner Terrell Moody says no foul play is suspected. O’Barr said the state fire marshall’s office is investigating the incident as with any fire fatality. Firefighters worked until around 1:30 a.m. to contain the fire and checked back throughout the night to make sure it did not flare back up. Units from Station 3 in Lifsey Springs and from Station 7 in Zebulon responded to the fire as well as tankers from Station 8 in Second District, Station 2 in Hollonville and Station 6 in Williamson.
