Joshua Lively, 17, was shot at a home in a Williamson subdivision Wednesday, Jan. 9 by his step father Paul Johnson after Lively allegedly became aggressive while holding a knife. He passed away around 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10. Funeral arrangements will be handled Moody-Daniel Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Zebulon. Lively passed away at Atlanta Medical Center the day after he was shot in the head. ”At 7:09 last night, Jan. 10, Joshua Lively was pronounced dead as the result of a gunshot injury,” said coroner Terrell Moody. A Jan. 10 press release from Sheriff Jimmy Thomas reads:On Jan. 9, at approximately 5 p.m., Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a call of a person shot in the Highway 362 West Place subdivision. The initial 911 caller advised dispatchers that a 17 year old male had been shot by his step father. Upon the arrival of deputies, the step father, Paul Johnson, surrendered himself without incident. Inside the residence, a 17 year old male, Joshua Lively, was found with a gunshot wound to the head. He was transported by helicopter to Atlanta Medical Center in critical condition. Numerous pieces of evidence were collected by investigators from the scene. According to witness statements, Lively and Johnson had been involved in an argument prior to the shooting. At some point during the argument, Lively obtained a knife from the kitchen of the residence and began to become aggressive towards Johnson. At the point where Johnson became afraid for his safety, he discharged his gun. Representatives from the District Attorney’s office were consulted by investigators during the course of this case. At this time, no charges have been filed against Johnson. The incident is still under investigation and upon completion of the investigation, all information will be forwarded to the district attorney’s office for their review.
