Teresa Mangham Burousas has been released from Grady Hospital in Atlanta where she was lifeflighted after being savagely beaten at her Caldwell Bridge Rd. home near Concord July 1.Her husband, Buzz Burousas, was apparently shot and killed in the attack. His body is at the state crime lab in Atlanta where an autopsy will be performed today, according to Pike County sheriff Jimmy Thomas.Mrs. Burousas was told of her husband’s death late July 1 and interviewed by investigators.No arrests have yet been made. “We are working hard. I have investigators going in all different directions on this,” sheriff Thomas reported Thursday morning.Buzz Burousas was the son of former Lamar County chief magistrate Jimmie Burousas. Teresa Burousas is the daughter of Pike County commission chairman Doug Mangham.Sheriff Thomas believes the incident was an isolated one and is not terming it a home invasion. Mrs. Burousas was attacked in her yard. Initial reports that her dogs were also beaten were false, the sheriff added.UPDATE: In a release issued just before noon July 2, the sheriff’s department reported the victims “may have had some connection with or knowledge of the suspects”.The release also clarified that Buzz Burousas was found dead in his vehicle in the driveway of the home. The cause of death has not yet been determined. It also confirms that Teresa Burousas was found outside the home.The sheriff refused to speculate on a motive for the attacks, saying more information may be forthcoming later today.
