Tour de Pike peddling forward

Bicyclists and skaters will converge on Concord Saturday, March 21, for the 12th annual Tour de Pike sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Pike County. The ride begins at 8:30 a.m. and winds its way through the countryside, passing horse and cattle farms and peach and pecan orchards. Riders can choose routes of varying distances ranging from an “easy” seven miles from Concord to Molena to the “100 mile Century,” which covers all communities in Pike and Gay in Meriwether County. A moderate route traverses through Meansville, Zebulon and back to Concord for a total of 33 miles. Preregistration is available until March 13 with a $25 signup. The fee includes a t-shirt. The fee after March 13 and including the day of the ride is $30. Riders and skaters may sign in beginning at 8 a.m. communities and the Lion’s Club will provide rest stops and refreshments along all routes. The Kiwanians will also provide support for the riders with SAG vehicles that sweep the routes and can provide emergency service for stranded riders or those who have technical difficulties. A meal will be provided at Concord Cafe to each rider upon his or her return to Concord at the completion of their ride. The Kiwanis Club asks for the help of the community in making this a safe and memorable ride for the guests. Please confine any dogs that have a tendency to chase or harass riders. Drivers, on the day of the ride, are asked to recognize and be courteous to the riders as they share the road. Tour de Pike proceeds have provided scholarships, food baskets for the needy and donations to other charities. For information about the ride and routes, visit www.kiwanispike.org.
