See the team in action at a home meet Tuesday, March 14 at the middle school track and again at their second home meet on April 19.

Track teams dominate Willie Hamm Invitational

The girls and boys track team kicked off their seasons at the inaugural Willie Hamm Invitational in Lamar County this past Saturday. The Pike County High School Track and Field girls team earned first place and the boys team placed second at the 2023 Willie Hamm Invitational.

“Being the first meet, we did not max out our runners in all the events but still came up with a first place finish for the girls and a second place finish for the boys,” said coach Clay Woerner.

“Elite performances were turned in by Jada Colbert in the high jump with a 5’4” which is currently second in the state in AAA. Our boys 4 by 800 team also performed well and currently have the second best time with a 9:03. The team consists of Luke Woerner, Xander Potter, John Barber and Andrew Edwards. Xander also performed well in the 3200 with a 10:32 and in the 1600 with a 4:54. Luke also ran a 4:49 in the 1600. Gage Lee and Luke Woerner are also second and fifth in the state with their Pole Vault performances. Naudia Brown did well in the Shot Put and Callie Williams performed well in the discus. All of our distance runners did well – sweeping most events – including our girls 4 by 800 team of Callie Williams, Morgan Boynton, Jocelyn Coker and Baily Morris. These ladies along with Emma Summerlin swept all of the distance events as well. Track new-comer Calvin Hoops won the high jump. Jakilen King won the long jump. We had many top placers and earned many medals as the picture reflects in a total team effort.”

The track teams will be back in action Friday, March 10 at Social Circle and they will host a home meet which was not on the original schedule Tuesday, March 14. The home track is at the middle school.

“If you come out to watch our small home meet, bring a chair and enjoy the competition. We will start at 4 p.m. We will also have a home meet on April 19,” said coach Woerner.
