American Legion Post 197 will host a Turkey Shoot fundraiser Saturday, Dec. 14, at 2 p.m. at 2616 Old Meansville Road. Participants will pay $5 per shot at paper targets. The closest to the bullseye will win one of several prizes including turkeys, hams, rounds of golf, oil changes, door prizes and gift certificates. There will also be a surprise round, door prizes and snacks and drinks. No alcohol is allowed. ’We’ll have 18 rounds or more depending on the number of participants,’ said post commander Bill Payton Sr. ‘We’ll shoot until we have to shut it down. Some of the proceeds will go to Helping Hands and some will go to a handicapped veteran in the community.’Payton said the event is not just for men and there are several prizes for women. He said if children under 18 are able to shoot and their parents approve, they can also be part of the event. For those unable to attend, donations can be dropped off at American Legion Post 197 on Saturdays between 12 noon and 6 p.m. or mailed to the Post at P.O. Box 781, Zebulon, 30295.On the evening of Dec. 14, Post 197 members will hold a Christmas party for kids they help through the year. Santa will make a special stop to visit them.
