United Bank closing Milner branch

United Bank will close its Milner branch effective September 28, 2012 and donate the property to Milner for its new community library. The full release from the United Bank senior vice-president Lori Martinez follows: Milner citizens have worked diligently for years to raise local funds and receive State funding to construct a new community library. Approval has been announced for a $780,000 grant for this purpose contingent upon acquiring a suitable building site. United Bank has agreed to donate its Milner bank building and land for this purpose. The bank will also donate funds to the City for the acquisition of additional adjoining land needed for the library building and parking. Mr. Robbie Tenney, President of United Bank in Barnesville, shared these comments in a letter to Milner customers: ‘The decision to close Milner was a very difficult one for us. We have been an active part of the Milner community since 1977. In addition to providing financial services for local citizens, we have served as a gathering place for the community. We are pleased that the community library will provide an even better center of activity for Milner.’ The Milner office will continue to operate as a full service banking location through Friday, September 28, 2012. United Bank will reserve an easement on the donated property to provide a local drive-up ATM for customers following the bank office closing.
