Veterans Day ceremony set for Nov. 11

The Pike American Legion Family will host the Pike County Veterans Day Program at the south side of the Pike County courthouse square in Zebulon Friday, Nov. 11. The public is invited to attend and the event will commence at 11 a.m. ’The Veterans Day Program will recognize and honor America’s military veterans, extend our nation’s appreciation and pay tribute to all deceased veterans,’ said Post 197 commander Bryan Richardson. ‘Please join the community as we say ‘Thank you’ and show our appreciation to current active duty military and veterans past and present for defending the freedoms that we enjoy today.’ Highlights of the program will include the multi-organizational Color Guard who will post the Colors, Rebekah Hanson who will sing the National Anthem, a special tribute to Sergeant First Class (Retired) Douglas ‘Ed’ Jones, a recognition and tribute to active duty military and veteran spouses, the laying of the wreath at the base of the Pike County Veterans Memorial and the playing of Taps. Information for veterans, veteran families and the community will be available prior and after the program. Seating is limited, so members of the public are encouraged to bring lawn chairs.
