Veterans Day events in Pike

Members of American Legion Post 197 will host the Pike County Veterans Day Program at the south side of the courthouse square in Zebulon at 11 a.m. Nov. 11. The public is invited to attend the event to honor veterans. Starting at 9:30 a.m. on Veterans Day Wednesday, Nov. 11, students at the Pike County Primary School will line the halls of the school as they wave American flags and sing patriotic songs to honor veterans who are their family members. The veterans will march through the halls to be honored and then have photos taken with their students afterwards. ’The Veterans Day program helps those in attendance recognize and appreciate our veterans for defending the freedoms that we as Americans currently enjoy,’ said Post 197 commander Bryan Richardson. ‘Veterans will be introduced by their service song during the playing of the Armed Forces Medley.’ The guest speaker will be Navy Captain (Retired) Robert ‘Bob’ Perkerson from Molena. As part of the program, attendees will hear the history of the Pike County Veterans Memorial. A wreath will be placed at the base of the monument and Taps will be played in honor of all deceased veterans.
