Volleyball adds wins to record at home meet

Pike County High School hosted a tri-county match with Spalding and Upson-Lee on Thursday, Sept. 22 and played strong. Both the Lady Pirates varsity and junior varsity teams won in two sets over Spalding County. The varsity won 25-15 and 25-4 over Spalding and the JV won 25-8 and 25-3 over Spalding.

The PCHS teams then faced tough opponents Upson-Lee and played well. The JV team played well and beat the Lady Knights JV team. The varsity fought hard, forcing a third game. Upson won the first game 28-26 and Pike won the second game 25-14. Pike won the toss for the third match and was able to serve first but came up just short with Upson Lee winning 15-8 in the third match.

“Home games are challenging since it requires finding a lot of volunteers in order to make them a successful experience for everyone when it comes to the concession stand, keeping the score book, tracking the libero and line judging,” said head coach Meghan Lee. “We could not do it without the support of the parents who cater to the needs of the volleyball program!”

The Lady Pirates varsity will host Griffin High and Union Grove with matches at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 29. They will travel to Peach County on Oct. 4 and host FPD and Mary Persons on Oct. 6.
