The Pike County High School volleyball teams hosted Griffin High and Union Grove JV varsity matches Thursday. Pike JV and varsity played at the same time. The first game was against Griffin High. The varsity won the first match 25-17, lost the second match 20-25 and won the final match 15-13. As a whole, the team had a 90% serving accuracy with Kinsey Busch leading with five aces. Sadie Lewis led the team with six kills.
The JV played well against Griffin, too, completing the same pattern of wins and losses as varsity. They won the first match 25-17, lost the second match 20-25 and won the final match 15-13.
Union Grove then played Griffin. After the matches, the Lady Pirates took the court to play again.
Pike, a 3A school, competed well against the 5A school.
“It may not have been the true results we wanted, but they were both great games to watch,” said coach Meghan Lee.
The JV won the first match 25-19, lost the second 18-25 and lost the final match 12-15. The varsity won the first match 25-14, lost the second match 17-25 and lost the final match 13-15.
“The girls competed against this team well,” said coach Lee. “Kinsey Busch led the team with five kills and Abby Kelly led the team with 7/7 serves for a 100% serving accuracy. These were both tough matches, but the girls played well! Next week is going to be busy!”
The varsity hosted Mary Persons Monday and both JV varsity traveled to Peach County Tuesday after the Journal Reporter’s press deadline. Pike will host the Area Tournament for Peach, Jackson, Mary Persons and Upson Lee starting at 10 or 11 a.m. this Saturday.
