Wednesday Market gets grant

The Wednesday Market in downtown Zebulon and online at wednesdaymarket.locallygrown.net received a $500 grant from AgSouth Farm Credit Regional, according to vice president Ricky Grice. The market was one of 63 community based farmers markets to receive a grant from the cooperative. The association awarded $31,500 in grants to markets across its territory. Grants will be used to advertise and promote the markets. The Wednesday Market also received 250 reusable bags with AgSouth’s ‘Think Outside the Store’ logo to give to its customers. To be eligible, applicants had to complete a section stating how they would use the money to advertise their markets. The Wednesday Market will use the funds to buy a large sign and help with costs associated with its online store. AgSouth originally set aside $25,000 for the program but, said CEO Lisa Gunter, ‘Our staff did such a good job of spreading the word the number of applications exceeded our expectations.’
