Weis murder trial delayed

Accused murderer Jamie Weis was scheduled to go to trial next month but his date with a Pike County jury has been postponed until October. The trial was delayed during a hearing at the courthouse in downtown Zebulon on Monday, July 20. His trial is now slated to begin Oct. 5 at 9 a.m. More than 100 Pike County residents have been drawn as potential jurors in the Weis case. District Attorney Scott Ballard will seek the death penalty if jurors convict. Weis, 31, is accused of fatally shooting neighbor Catherine King, 73, during a burglary at her Williamson home in February 2006.
