Woman charged in embezzlement case

A Pike County woman faces multiple charges after allegedly embezzling money from a local bank. April Jean Brannon, 47, of 9762 Hwy. 19 in Zebulon was arrested February 27. She is currently housed in the Lamar County jail without bond. She was booked into the Lamar jail on March 1. Brannon faces nine counts of first degree forgery and one count of theft by taking. Brannon was formerly employed at First Bank of Pike. The Journal-Reporter was referred to bank CEO John Barker for comment. Barker has not yet returned the call. A bank employee said the investigation was ongoing. One unconfirmed report had the amount of money involved at $200,000. UPDATE: The GBI is involved in this investigation.
