YET ANOTHER SNOW DAY

Pike County schools cancelled classes for Friday, Jan. 31 due to icy conditions on bridges and secondary roads. Faculty and staff are asked to report at 11 a.m. if possible. The sheriff’s office is urging people not to drive unless absolutely necessarry. UPDATE: Gordon State College is closed Thursday. Due to heavily iced roads and slush, the Pike County sheriff’s office urges citizens not to drive if it is possible to avoid it. They expect areas of black ice to develop as temperatures drop overnight. The Pike County EMA established an emergency operations center Wednesday afternoon to ensure the safety of citizens if conditions deteriorate. ”The roads are melting right now in some areas, but there are a lot of areas of icy patches and everything will start freezing around six tonight again,” said EMA director Jimmy Totten. “We will not get above freezing for any length of time until around 10 a.m. tomorrow. The road department and sheriff department have done a great job trying to keep roads safe. We have to help them out and keep the public off the roads.”
