The second Zebulon Steak Out will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 14 at the Zebulon City Park at 7818 Highway 19 south. City employees have worked to coordinate the event and prizes for first second and third include a 65-quart Yeti cooler, a 45-quart Yeti cooler and a four-pack of Yeti cups in addition to trophies.’The Zebulon Steak Out is a great chance for the community to come out and enjoy some time in the park to have fun with family and friends,’ said city administrator Larry Mitcham. ‘We hope this will be an annual event.’ Cook teams and vendors can join the Zebulon Steak Out by Friday, May 13 at noon. The cost for a vendor booth is $35 and the fee for each cook team is $100. Proceeds from the event will help pay for Zebulon City Park improvements. ’Each cook team will get two competition sized steaks – inch and a quarter thick rib eye steaks – and the cooks will turn in the best of those two steaks to be judged by a panel of five judges,’ said Zebulon City Council member Dewey Yarbrough. ‘It’s going to be a lot of fun.’Cooks – and the helpers of their choice – will be provided with power, water and the steaks. They will have to provide their own grill and everything else. Contestant turn-in times will be staggered so the judges will have time to clear their palates between tastes and so the steaks will be hot when consumed. The steaks will be anonymously delivered to a panel of local judges. All steaks will be evaluated based on four categories – appearance, doneness, tenderness and taste. The family-friendly event will include musical entertainment and a food vendor for visitors.
