The number of confirmed COVID cases has been at only three cases for the past two weeks, according to the Georgia Department of Public Health. While COVID cases are low, flu activity is already widespread in Georgia – earlier than in recent years.
The number of confirmed cases in Pike since the start of the pandemic in 2020 rose from 3,015 to 3,017. The number of deaths has remained the same at 81 for several weeks, as has the number of probable deaths at 25. The number of hospitalizations rose to 217.
As of Oct. 8, there were 35 hospitalizations due to the flu and eight influenza outbreaks in Georgia. The flu vaccine is available at public health departments, doctors’ offices, grocery stores, neighborhood clinics and pharmacies.
